So i figured i should post here the real story of what happened last night 15/9/06 to Ashleigh Harris yr 10 at Dapto.
Last night:
Ashleigh, Albie and me were walking up horsley drive just past greenbrook place when we went to cross the road to go and sit in the park. As we were crossing a car came speeding through the roundabout heading towards bong bong road Next thing we know this car (either a white ford or a subaru) was coming fast towards us, through the middle of the road. i called out to albie and ash to hurry up, me and albie sped up and we thought ashleigh was with us to. Sadly she wasnt. There was a massive bang and the shattering of glass (the cars headlights had shattered) and i screamed to albie "dude that bang was ashleigh shes been hit". The car didnt even slow down and the driver just kept going. A car on the other side of the road stopped and the lady and her daughter along with some people who's houses we were near came out. we ran across the road over to where ashleigh was laying. the car had knocked her in the air from the middle of the road over to the grass footpath.
We straight away called the ambulance and we checked for a pulse and albie was in contact with the ambulance people over the phone who were telling us what to do and who were asking questions about her breathing and injuries. We threw blankets over her and kept her warm and tried to get her concious and speaking while we were waiting for the ambo's to arrive.
Soon after they were there along with the police. we got pulled aside for questions and that was when maddie, rebecca and andrea showed up and they to were in a state of shock. we explained to the cops what had happened as ashleigh was being looked after. they were putting in breathing tubes and what not.
the ambulance then left and we got questioned further by the cops. we found ashleighs phone and by putting the sim in my phone we were able to let the cops call her mum, who immediatly dropped everything and went down there.
we hung around for a bit and tried to colect ourselves while the cops scoured the area and called in the crash unit and closed the road.
The crash people were able to identify some of the vehicle aspects like the make and what not from our descriptions and the glass fragments. they didnt leave till like 1 this morning. we were all able to watch and keep checking in as we were on andreas driveway and could clearly see.
So not much sleep was had by any of us and we didnt know much at all. we called alot of ash's friends and spreaded the word round.
This morning:
They were telling the story on the radio and giving vehicle details so people can help report the bastards who just left her lying there. they also said she sustained severe head injuries and is on life support.
at bout 10 i called ash's mum and got in contact with everyone again and told them some more news.
i was also able to go to the hospital and talk with her family, they were glad i showed and tears were shared as i explained what happened and her family told us how she is.
its not looking good.
she has a fractured pelvis with severe bleeding internally and also bleeding around her brain. they also cant operate as the blood hasnt clotted and its dangerous to try as shes lost alot of blood. as of now shes had 6 bags of blood and 1 of plasma to keep her alive. shes in intensive care and chances are will be there for a while. the docters cant tell us much as yet and ashleighs mum would prefer it if she didnt get calls about her as yet as its hard for her and her family to keep telling everyone. so shes got my number and will call me every so often with news and will call me immediatley if anything goes wrong, which hopefully wont happen.
please pray for her. its a touch and go situation.
the cops still do not know who was responsible for the hit and run either and were relying on either the bastards to own up or for them to be found a dobbed in.
Update: The driver has been found, i know where they live, coincidently near me. if she doesnt make it they can expect one heck of an egging. Update: I'm sorry but ash didnt make it. her injuries were to servere and they turned of life support at 5:30. it was the only thing keeping her alive.
